How Do Our Doctors Practice?

Challenges boasts a team of approximately fifteen truly wonderful psychologists. And While all our clinicians have different styles, we agree on certain fundamental principals, and these are:

Foremost, we operate with our hearts as well as our heads.

Next, we are solution, rather than problem, focused. More time is spent making things better, rather than dwelling on where they went bad.

We are 'brief' therapists, putting solutions and support into place sooner rather than later. It is our aim to get you out there LIVING!

We emphasize the mind-body-spirit connection. How you feel emotionally DOES impact how you feel physically. If you are experiencing pain, fatigue, trouble concentrating, digestive and sleep problems or major illness,- you can improve these, and we can help!

Our treatment plans are individualized rather than getting the individual to conform to a particular therapeutic mold. Our access to many different techniques and 'modalities' allows us to cater to the individual.

We believe that you are master of your own destiny, to a great degree (even though it sure doesn't feel this way sometimes!)

We are 'systems-oriented'. This means that we believe 'no wo/man is an island'. We all function within a network, or system, of others. This could mean our family, our friends, our co-workers, our roommates - there are significant people in all our lives. In our practice, we take this into account, because your relationships (or lack thereof) with the folks you love will have a strong impact on how you feel. And if you are a senior, chances are you and your family are experiencing some stress as you look into the future and try and make the right decisions.

Having a ripe sense of humor and a lot of enthusiasm are hallmarks of clinicians. Be prepared to laugh, laughter really IS good medicine!

A major goal for us is to help you maintain and even enhance your own independence. Our favorite expression is Carpe Diem! Seize the day!
